Picture Game

ew Game: I'm going to post some of the kiddo's artwork, and everyone else interprets it! Here is the first challenge:

I'll go first:
Obviously it's supposed to be a picture of being a good listener, but I'm seeing someone with a bowling ball chasing someone in a wheelchair who is going to dump a bucket of water on the person with the flower pot . . .
In a couple days I'll post Punky's interpretation of the picture :-)

Me, Esquire

10 JAN 09

I am officially an attorney in good standing in the state of New York! We drove up to Albany on the 6th for the interview and swearing in ceremony. I had been a little nervous about the interview because I didn't know what it would entail, but it turned out to be great. The lawyer interviewing me said that the main purpose was to go over problems in my application or background check, and that my application was outstanding. So we just ended up chatting about my undergrad experiences and about how he had wanted to be a Marine back in the ‘70's but didn't weigh enough. So we went down the hall, I took the Oath, and now it's official. I am now Me, Esquire.

Oops. I just hit that point in the day where my brain is just done working. I was sitting here working away, getting stuff done and putting out fires. Then, suddenly, I found myself staring blankly at the staple remover on my desk . . .

In the Spirit of Blogging

10 JAN 09
One of my friends from undergrad sent me one of those little survey things that are always popping up on sites like Myspace. You know the things, designed for 7th graders to try to figure out if so-and-so likes them and if the rumor about the tattoo is really true. I have to admit there was a time when I probably filled out 3 of these things a month, but it's been a long time. So, in the spirit of keeping my blog/journal thing entertaining, here goes:
(I wonder what my answers to these would have been when I was 17 . . .)
How far away is the person you miss?
I've moved a lot and made really good friends in all the places I've lived. I miss a lot of people currently located all over the world.

Any plans for tomorow?
We're going to try out a new church. There's a UU church up in Manassas that seems like it probably has a pretty good RE (Religious Education; think Sunday school) program, and it has a UU pagans group that I'm really hoping will be active.

When was the last time you were sick?
I had the worst cough that just drained my body and lasted for most of December.

How long does it take for you to take a shower?
It depends on if I'm at work or at home and whether or not MacGyver joins me . . .

What time did you get up today?
8:38 to let the dogs out. Mmmmm . . . I love sleeping past 5:30

Ever thrown up in public?
I believe I've thrown up in a few semi-public places.

Do you still talk to your ex?
I used to be pretty good friends with a number of them, and I still speak to them once in a while, but not often.

What's the first thing you did when you turn 18?
I don't even remember turning 18 . . . So the first thing I probably did was to have another shot.

Where's the last place you went?
We had to run to the grocery store at 10 last night when we realized we didn't have anything for breakfast.

Are you closer you to your mom or dad?
I'm pretty close to both of my parents, but in different ways.

When was the last time you cried?
I avoid crying.

Can you imagine yourself living in a cardboard box?
Ummm, I lived in an old Ford Escort for the first 6 weeks I was in NY. That's close, right? My stuff lived in a cardboard box in the trunk.

Who was the last person you talked to?
MacGyver.

Whats the worst subject they teach in school?
Abstinence Only Sex Education. What a freaking crock of S*&^. Studies keep showing that all it does is reduce the use of condoms and other forms of contraception. It doesn't reduce the actual age at which kids start having sex. Ugh. I could go on and on about this.

When will you have kids?
We're planning to start trying to have another in about a year. For now, Punky and the pups keep me pretty busy.

What is your favorite color shirt to wear?
Earth tones or Red.

Are you a cuddler?
I'm going to go with no. MacGyver and I can get pretty mushy fairly often, but I don't think I could ever survive referring to myself as a "cuddler."

What's the closest thing to you that's green?
MacGyver's shirt.

Would you ever get plastic surgery?
Only corrective. I've sustained enough injuries to understand that I may one day have to have my face reconstructed, lol.

Would you prefer a baby boy or girl?
I think deep down there's a part of me that wants another girl, but really it's up to the Universe, I'd be excited either way. Ah, but that's still at least a year off.

What was the weather like today?
Kinda grey and rainy, but not too bad really.

Are you a forgiving person?
I can be very forgiving, but I rarely forget. I can also be very, very vindictive.

Do you like the song 'I Kissed A Girl' by Katy Perry?
This would be an example of one of the Jr. High questions I referred to earlier. Yeah, it's an upbeat song. I like Katy Perry. I don't really blush at the idea of kissing a girl. I've always said my love life would be a thousand times easier if I were a lesbian.

Have you ever thought about getting your nose pierced?
I used to be really into piercings, but for some reason I never really wanted the nose.

What were you doing at midnight last night?
Watching Indiana Jones with the fam.

What were you doing 2 hours ago?
Taking a shower

Have you ever liked someone who treated you like crap?
Yeah, to say the very least.

Is there a secret you've never told your parents?
Well, my mom still doesn't know I ever lived in my car, had a knife pulled on me in Bed-Stuy, or suffered temporary brain damage from a car accident . . .

WHO
Who makes you happy?
MacGyver, the pups, Punky, my friends, I even make myself happy from time to time.

Who is your favorite family member on your moms side?
Um . . . My mom . . .

Who is your favorite family member on your dads side?
My Dad . . .

Who do you tell your secrets to?
Depends on the secret . . . I like to keep them to myself.

Who do you live with?
My husband and daughter, two dogs, and 10 fish in three different tanks.

WHAT'S

What's your full name?
If you know me, you know my full name.

What's your birthdate?
November 5th

What's your favorte color?
Dark Red, Forest Green

What's your favorite sport?
Probably Hockey. Depends on how you define a sport. I really like playing with MacGyver . . .

What do you do in your spare time?
I miss having spare time. I'm a Marine. I'm a Lawyer. I'm a Mom. I'm a Wife. Someone please show me where this spare time is.

What are your pets names?
Heaven help me for admitting this, lol: Sirius Black and Nymphadora Tonks - and fish

What's your favorite T.V. show?
Hard to say, I rarely watch TV these days. I really love to catch random documentaries. I heart the History Channel.

What's your favorite movie?
I love a lot of movies and it's all dependant on my mood. Mostly I just fall asleep during movies lately though, ha.

WHERE'S
Where were you on your last birthday?
Out for a fancy-pants kid free night with the hubs

Where do you live?
Virginia

Where do you want to live?

Where was your last vacation to?
Our last full on vacation was our Honeymoon, which was to the Riviera Maya. We've done some mini-trips to New York and other places.

Where did you go in a car last?
Grocery store last night

Where do your grandparents live?
Ontario and Michigan

Where do you want to go to college?
Well I've already gotten degrees from Purdue and New York Law School, but I'm a constant student and would love being able to go back to college. I haven't really thought about where, though.

WHEN'S
When did/will you graduate?
2001, 2005, and 2008

When are you going to bed?
Not a clue. Thank heavens for the weekend!

When is the last time you took a vitamin?
I take a multi every night

WHY'S
Why do you think you were born?
Because my parents wanted kids . . .

Why are you stressed?
Let me say this again: I'm a Marine. I'm a Lawyer. I'm a Wife. I'm a Mother . . . Need I go on?

Why is MySpace so addictive?
Because humans are shallow and self absorbed.

Why do clowns scare people?
I would say largely because of IT and John Wayne Gacie

Why are you bored?
I'm not.

What is annoying you?
Nothing really at the moment, but it's only a matter of time . . .

On Hold

09 JAN 09
Making calls at work today I found myself on hold with the national offices of a certain military organization, and was quite disturbed to find myself, while on hold with this organization, listening to a Burger King commercial . . . Maybe I'm alone in finding this a little ironic, or maybe it's because my branch of the military happens to exemplify health-obsessed vanity and scorn for all things fat and lazy, but really. What kind of military organization is running commercials for that crap to people who are waiting on hold? Ha. Friggin A.

New Year, New Blog

09 JAN 09
We rang in the New Year in style in Richmond. It was awesome, but alas, no pictures. MacGyver didn't feel like lugging the camera, and I wasn't wearing nearly enough fabric to conceal it on my person, ha. We had an amazing New Years Day, complete with meals of greens for money and black-eyed peas for luck, so superstition declares that it will be a good year.

I enter this new year wanting to start keeping an online journal again. I kept one the first couple years I was in law school, but it eventually petered out when I got busy with life. I'm still busier than ever with life, but I'm going to give it a go anyway. Odds are my posts will contain dates different than the dates they're posted since I don't like to get on social sites from work - professionalism and all. I figure I'll start with a review of last year just to get everyone, including myself, up to speed.

2008 was an insane year for me. It was definitely a year of transition. I graduated from law school, studied for and took the NY bar exam, got married, honeymooned in the Riviera Maya, lost the love of my life - my dog of 7 years, Dozer, moved with my husband and daughter to VA to go on active duty with the Marine Corps, lost my Grandpa - an amazing man who led an amazing life, found out I passed the NY Bar, got two wonderful new puppies to fill my life, and landed squarely on New Year's Eve at the Bank and Vault in Richmond, VA, exhausted but very, very happy. I imagine the 2008 Year in Review posts will largely revolve around those topics.
